Experience is the product of an overwhelming or reoccurring event that you have pocketed away into your memory. Memories are bias, skewed versions of reality, which we either romanticize or condemn when reminiscing. Nostalgia is the romanticized memory realized. This is when we wistfully dwell on the familiarities of a seemingly simpler, more naïve time in our lives. Nostalgia is the cause of an unreachable standard to which we compare our recent experiences. To better understand these concepts, I visited the town where I grew up and re-experienced the source of my nostalgia. Striving to compare my past with the now slanted reality of memories I associated with my childhood home. Capturing the essence of both my previous perceptions as well as the cultivated awareness that I had brought back with me was a daunting task. I was unable to look at things objectively, instead bringing with me the burdens and the affections I harbored for the places I went. The more I saw, the more I was inadvertently changing my perception of my previous memories. These types of changes in awareness are what inevitably create new context for all future experiences. You cannot approach a new confrontation without dragging along the knowledge of your past. You are an accumulation of every single moment, including the moments you choose to repeat.

GlitterCouch is a multi media platform that was created by Brittany Decker and Remelisa Cullitan in order to provide more exposure to the local Spokane arts community. GlitterCouch traverses the Spokane greater area, interviewing local artists, highlighting the incredible talent and diversity for the consumption of the general public to absorb. It's current members are Brittany Decker, Remelisa Cullitan and May Kytonen.
